There are no longer many social occasions that require a woman to buy a hat - so it's no surprise that racegoers at Royal Ascot regularly pull out all the stops.
And this year is no exception. From the wonderful to the very weird, all manner of millinery was on display at the Berkshire racecourse today.
With two days to go until Ladies' Day, many raised the bar with elegant, sculptural designs that were more works of art than fashion accessories.
