Man caught trying to carry snakes on a plane

Police seized snakes and other live animals from a traveller who was carrying them as hand luggage in Abu Dhabi airport last Thursday.

The man, who was travelling with a box containing four snakes, a squirrel and two parrots, had just spent eight hours on a flight from Jakarta to Abu Dhabi.
He was in transit, on his way to board another plane, when an airport staff member spotted something moving in his carry-on luggage.
All the animals in the box were alive and separated in different compartments.
"Carrying animals on board is strictly prohibited. In this case, other passengers' safety was at risk," Abu Dhabi's acting chief of security affairs and ports, Khamis al-Marar, told newspaper 7Days.
He added: "The passenger had no certificates or documentation for the animals. And we didn't know if they were rare animals or if they could have had diseases."
The man, who hasn't been named by the police, was allowed to continue his journey once authorities had confiscated the animals he was trying to bring on the flight.
It remains unclear how he managed to go through security in Indonesia. But there was fortunately no real-life re-enactment of 2006 thriller 'Snakes on a Plane' while he was travelling.
