With his chequered past and many conquests, Russell Brand was hardly an obvious candidate for settled life as a one-woman man. Until he met pop dynamo Katy Perry.

But one year after wooing the colourful American songbird at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards in New York, he couldn't be more in love.

"I've found someone who is singularly important to me, so it means compromise, growing up and all the things they tell you in school," he says.

"Love between two people is the most spectacular yet ordinary thing in the world."
