All smiles: Jon Snow and his new wife, Precious, at the screening
He once complained about the claustrophobia of matrimony, but broadcaster Jon Snow was all smiles as he made a rare public appearance with his wife, Zimbabwe-born epidemiologist Precious Lunga. It was the first time the couple have been seen side-by-side since I revealed news of their Caribbean wedding earlier this year.
And judging by the cheery disposition of the Channel 4 News anchor at the screening of a new documentary, Mandelson: The Real PM?, clergyman’s son Snow, 63, is settling into married life rather well, despite the 27-year age gap.
As I disclosed, the couple married in a beachside ceremony in ritzy Mustique by special licence, staying at an £800-a-night hotel, where past guests have included Mick Jagger and Hugh Grant.
They were joined for their outing to the British Film Institute on London’s South Bank on Sunday by the documentary’s director, Hannah Rothschild, and the star of the film himself, Lord Mandelson.
Friends couldn’t help noticing that Precious seems to have exercised some influence over her husband. There was no sign of one of his frightful vivid ties — but what about the scarf?
Their estrangement has been played out against the backdrop of the fleshpots of Europe and the trappings of extreme wealth, from Ferrari supercars and private jets to ocean-going yachts and fashionable nightclubs.
But now, after claim and counter-claim, peace of sorts has broken out between financial beauty Elena Ambrosiadou, renowned as one of the most successful female hedge-fund managers in Britain, and her estranged mathematician husband, Martin Coward.
Last week, Coward dropped a court case against Elena, 51, in Greece in which he was claiming custody of their 14-year-old son.
Says a friend of Elena, whose take-home pay at one stage was £16million a year: ‘Everyone was very surprised because he didn’t turn up to court in person, and the judge announced that his claim had been withdrawn.’
