It has been hailed as the luckiest day of the century.
This morning, the historic time of ten seconds past ten minutes past 10 o’clock on October 10, 2010, will be reached – the first time in 100 years that such a sequence involving tens has been recorded.
Numerologists claim that the row of ‘perfect tens’ symbolises a powerful moment of rebirth.
The Chinese regard it as ‘shi quan shi mei’ – perfect in every way – and believe that today is the luckiest day to get married. Such is the demand in China that venues across the country are opening as early as 6am.
In Beijing’s Haidian district, more than 1,200 couples have registered – the most in one day this year.
Across Britain, couples are also tying the knot in record numbers. Brides magazine estimates there will be 31,000 weddings today – ironically, ten times more than usual.
Chichester register office in West Sussex will open for the first time on a Sunday, while Manchester register office will open for only the third time since 1837 to allow six weddings to take place
